Identification Requirements

I am required by law to verify the identity of my clients, in order to prevent fraudulent activity and to uphold strict anti-money laundering standards

You should bring the original of:

Your current passport, plus one of the following:
Your current driving licence (with photo) or national identity card, or
Your council tax bill for the current year showing your home address, or

A recent utility bill, credit card or bank statement showing your current address

You should also bring any other means of ID which may be referred to in the papers sent to you as being required, such as a foreign identity card.

In cases where the name on the document is different from the name you are currently using, or there has been a variation in the form of spelling of the name over the years, please provide me as appropriate with certificates of birth, marriage or divorce decree or change of name deed showing all the different names that you use.

For corporate clients, I undertake searches at Companies House and make enquires with any of the appointed directors and/or the secretary, to verify the status of the company. The type of proof and information required for corporate clients will depend on the circumstances and service required.

Fees

My charges

To be able to provide you with a quote, I will firstly need to see the documents which are to be notarised, together with any signing instructions sent to you by your overseas lawyer. This will allow me to assess what is required.

If the matter is straightforward, I will provide a fixed price quote which will include my fee, plus any disbursements (legalisation fees, consular agent’s fees, courier fees, translation costs etc). My minimum fee is £100. I am not registered for VAT.

If I have to make payments on your behalf such as legalisation fees, consular agent's fees etc, I will obtain your approval to these in advance.

For more complicated or time-consuming matters, the fee will be based on my hourly rate of £200 (no VAT), plus disbursements.

How are costs calculated?

Costs depend on the expected length of the appointment, any preparatory work that might be needed, the number/type of documents, and the specific level of legal complexity involved

Will costs be agreed in advance?

I will usually offer a definitive fixed price quote once I have evaluated the paperwork and the foreign jurisdiction's requirements, ensuring complete transparency with no unexpected additional costs

Do out of hours appointments or urgent bookings cost extra?

I aim to meet tight deadlines at normal rates; however, very demanding cases needing instant priority may incur additional costs. I charge double rates for out of hours appointments, subject to availability
